Genetics certainly play a role in our health. But many of our genes first need to be exposed to a particular environment before they manifest themselves.
Diabetes, heart failure, some cancers, and even dementia are a few chronic illnesses that have a genetic disposition. However, adopting healthy lifestyle behaviors like the food you eat and the exercise you do can lower these risks.
Preliminary research specifically on exercise and dementia will be presented at the American Heart Association’s Epidemiology, Prevention, Lifestyle & Cardiometabolic Health Conference this year.
