Habits: Supplements, Fad Diets, and Mindset

Consistency > Intensity. Always.

This is why habits are so important. You’d rather brush your teeth for two minutes every day than get your teeth cleaned at the dentist every 6-months.

When it comes to supplements and fad diets, healthy individuals stick to one rule: eat real food. Adopting a positive mindset will help you achieve this.

You can receive everything you need from whole foods. However, I recognize that some circumstances in life arise where additional supplementation is helpful.

For a more detailed explanation, read “What Supplements Should I Take?”; but for a summarized version, here’s what you need to know:

Fad Diets

One of my friends had a baby three-months ago. During her postpartum check-up last week, the doctor pointed out that her BMI was too high and encouraged her to lose weight.

“But remember, you can’t diet right now because you’re breastfeeding,” the doctor said.

Not only was that incredibly discouraging for my friend, but totally wrong. What the doctor should’ve said is, “Because you’re breastfeeding, don’t go on a fad diet.”

Fad diets tend to promote short-term fixes through calorie deficits. In order to accomplish this, many of them lack essential nutrients. With this context, the advice from my friend’s doctor makes more sense. Fad diets are generally unhealthy options in the long-run.

Here’s a breakdown of some of the most popular fad diets today:

I hesitate in sharing that story because I’m not qualified medically to give nutrition advice to postpartum individuals. However, many of our athletes at RxFIT get back to their pre-pregnancy weight by focusing on healthy options instead of quantity.

Ask yourself, “Is this something a healthy person would eat?” If the answer is yes, then eat it.

Karli is a good example of this. She has delivered two babies via c-section and has gotten back to her pre-pregnancy weight rather quickly.

I tell you that she had a c-section only because she dropped the baby weight from nutrition only (she couldn’t exercise her first 6-weeks postpartum).

Adopt a positive mindset to change your outcome.

You should strive to receive all essential nutrients through whole foods, not supplements or fad diets.

Healthy individuals achieve this by adopting a habit of thinking positively.

Consistency > Intensity.
