“You know what did it for me?” Sean said to me after walking upside-down on his hands for the first time.
“You told me to bend my front leg before I kick up into the handstand!”
I laughed and deflected all the credit back on him. The truth was that Sean had been working on handstands for a while now and just needed a coach to spend a little bit of 1-on-1 time with him to hone a few things in.
But that’s sometimes all it takes. Yesterday, April successfully completed her first double-under in our Skill Session together. The cool thing about that moment was that she then went on to complete 25 more double-unders!
She messaged me later in the evening last night, “OK for real that was super fun! And very helpful [with my double-unders]. I’ll write a testimonial for you if you need help getting people in to do the skill sessions😁.”
This next week, I plan to write to you about a few, less-common known cues that can make all the difference as you learn the “Frustrating Movements”. These movements include handstands, double-unders, snatches, butterfly chest-to-bar pull-ups, and wall walks.
I know thrusters, running, and overhead squats can also be frustrating. If this blog series gains some traction, I’ll write more in depth about more of these movements. After all, we program many of them every week in our group classes at RxFIT.
